Obituary for Shazad Zaffar

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved brother and friend, Shazad Zaffar, who returned to his Creator on Thursday, 6th February 2025, between the hours of 3:30 AM and 5:00 AM. His janazah (funeral prayer) took place on Friday (7th) evening after Isha salah at Queen’s Cross Masjid (Dudley), attended by a large congregation comprising of family, friends, and members of the community who came together to honor his memory. His burial followed the next morning on Saturday, 8th February, at 11:00 AM, where he was laid to rest with prayers and tears from those who loved him dearly.

Shazad was more than just a friend or a community member—he was a source of light, warmth, and unwavering kindness. Known for his ever-present smile, he embodied the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ in the way he carried himself, always greeting others with sincerity and making those around him feel valued and uplifted. His laughter was infectious, his words always kind, and his heart full of generosity. He had an incredible ability to bring joy and ease to those around him, brightening even the most difficult of days.

Those who knew him would struggle to recall a moment when he was upset or resentful. Shazad was a man who held no malice in his heart, treating everyone with dignity and compassion. He lived with a quiet strength and sincerity, always putting the needs of others before his own, never expecting anything in return. His loss is immeasurable, but the legacy he leaves behind is one that will continue to inspire and touch lives for years to come.

A Life Dedicated to Service and Charity

At the heart of Shazad’s character was his unshakable commitment to serving others. As a dedicated trustee of Fountain of Mercy, he played a vital role in the charity’s mission to provide aid, relief, and hope to those in need. His involvement was never superficial; he was truly invested in the success of every project, ensuring that those who needed help received it with dignity and respect.

Shazad was not just a name attached to the charity—he was deeply involved on the ground, personally participating in multiple deployments where he travelled to vulnerable communities, delivering aid, and offering comfort to those suffering. Whether it was distributing food, helping to build essential infrastructure, or simply sitting with people and listening to their struggles, he made sure every person he encountered felt seen, heard, and cared for.

Wherever he went, he built strong bonds with those he helped. His sincerity, humility, and ability to connect with people on a personal level made him a beloved figure among both volunteers and beneficiaries. His compassion was not performative—it was deeply rooted in his faith and his love for humanity.

One of Shazad’s greatest passions was his work with orphans. He firmly believed that no child should feel alone or forgotten, and he made it his personal mission to bring joy, comfort, and support to their lives. Whether through direct interaction, heartfelt gifts, or larger support initiatives, he made sure these children knew they were cherished. He carried himself with such gentleness and sincerity that even the most reserved children would open up to him, finding in him an older brother, a mentor, and a friend. His presence brought smiles to their faces and hope to their hearts.

Shazad’s generosity was limitless. He gave his time, his wealth, and his energy freely, always striving to help those in need without hesitation. He never saw charity as an obligation but rather as a privilege, an opportunity to serve and uplift those who were struggling. His selflessness and dedication to service will remain an inspiration for all who knew him.

A Man of Faith, Respect, and Integrity

Beyond his charitable work, Shazad was a man of deep faith and conviction. He was always among the first to perform salah as soon as the time entered, encouraging and reminding those around him to remain steadfast in their prayers. His devotion to his Creator was evident in both his worship and his character, as he lived a life that reflected the teachings of Islam in its truest form—through kindness, sincerity, and selflessness.

His love and respect for his parents were among his most defining qualities. He was always obedient, always seeking their permission and blessings in all aspects of his life. After his mother’s passing three years ago, he dedicated himself to caring for his father, ensuring he was never alone or in need of anything. The way he served his father with such love and devotion was a testament to his character, setting a beautiful example for all who knew him.

Shazad also had a profound respect for his teachers, always speaking of them with admiration and gratitude. He understood the importance of knowledge and carried the lessons imparted to him with pride. He never allowed arrogance to take root in his heart and remained a student of life, always eager to learn and grow.

A Legacy That Lives On

Shazad was not just a giver—he was a leader, a role model, and a brother to so many. His presence had an incredible impact on those around him, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. Yet, in the midst of this loss, we take solace in knowing that he lived a life of purpose, faith, and service. His kindness touched countless lives, and his legacy of compassion and generosity will continue to inspire generations to come.

May Allah ﷻ forgive his shortcomings, accept his deeds, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus, a place in the highest ranks of Paradise, reunited with his beloved mother. May his grave be filled with light, ease, and peace, and may his good deeds continue to benefit him in the hereafter.

To those who knew him, let us honor his memory by continuing his legacy of kindness, charity, and service. Let us be more giving, more sincere, and more compassionate, just as he was.
